7th December 2009, National Students’ Day street meetings in Europe and Canada
In condemnation of Islamic Republic of Iran
In support of progressive students’ movement in Iran
7th December is the National Students’ Day in Iran. It is a day when thousands of people, especially students protest against the Islamic regime in Iran. Historically this day commemorates the struggle of students against Shah’s monarchist dictatorship and after the overthrow of the Shah, the students’ movement which has always had a radical and left character continued to undermine the ruling Islamic government in Iran. This year too, thousands of people came to the street and university campuses to demonstrate their hatred of the Islamic regime and their support for a free, equal, and prosperous society.
Simultaneously similar street meetings were held in different cities in Europe and Canada in support of the students’ movement in Iran and against the Islamic Republic. The world needs to know that people in Iran and people abroad want to overthrow the Islamic regime and bring about a secular state where freedom, equality and a better world is achieved.
